The Eighth Month

Playing
Baby’s favourite game becomes throwing every object, which comes into his hands, to the floor. It may be a spoon, a plate, or simply any of his toys. What will happen to this object – is something, that interests your baby most of all. And if you support him in such a way of having fun, the pleasure will reach its highest point. Such a toy – throwing will last until you stop this game.

There are babies, who decide that eight months is the age to begin eating by themselves, without any assistance from their mothers’ side. And spoon is the last mean to eat with, as it is much more fascinating to touch everything with fingers, mash in the palms and only after all these procedures food may be tasted. And the most delicious pieces are in YOUR plate as a rule. You should be extremely patient in this kind of situation and let your tiny explorer make his experiments. It is the very time when your baby’s teeth appear, and he will eat almost nothing, but pieces of food will be everywhere around your dining – room.

And as you may have noticed by this time, your kitchen becomes baby’s favourite place to spend time and have fun. First of all to his opinion it is the very place, where you are crazy about. Secondly, you play with all kinds of pots there and it means he has actions to repeat after his mom; yet it is such a temptation to investigate what is inside all these pots, frying – pans and plates. In addition to all the above mentioned fun, a baby manages to find some water from time to time, and then you will see all range of positive emotions. That is why you should provide safety during a little baby’s games in your “office”; mind, that everything you do there may hurt of burn your little son or daughter. You are to keep all hot, sharp and heavy objects away from the child.

Teeth
The process of teeth appearance goes on. It may happen that at this age your baby’s first tooth begins to cut out. By the end of his twelfth month your little one is to have eight teeth already. Baby’s gums get swollen before the teeth begin to appear. These swellings remind real teeth by their shape and size.

Remember your own constant teeth cutting out process? You should admit it was not pleasant at all. Your baby thinks so as well. That is why you should try to help him, using all possible methods: special ointments, teeth cooling toys, etc.

Sleep
At the age of eight months babies sleep twice a day as a rule. Although it may happen that a child will choose only to sleep one time a day for himself. In this case his day sleeping period will last a little longer. At night your little one sleeps up to 10 – 12 hours. He falls asleep at about 8 o’clock p. m., and gets up by 6 or 8 o’clock in the morning. Some parents may complaint of their baby having a habit to awaken at midnight or at 3 – 4 o’clock a. m. to play with them. If so, you should neither make him sleep, nor begin playing with your baby. The best way to solve this problem is to sing a lullaby and put a sleeping baby back into his bed.
