The Fifth Month

Sensitive Skin of Your Little Baby
Your baby’s over activity may lead to the skin irritations appearance. It usually happens in the areas, which get rubbed most of all. The irritation is revealed by somewhat reddish spots appearance on your baby’s head, back and legs areas. In the places with a big amount of sudoriferous glands (skin of the head, arm – pits and inguinal folds, neck area) a lot of tiny red or rosy spots may come out. There is no reason to get panicked very much; you simply should follow all the instructions below:
- Try to leave minimum of clothes on your baby;
- See if there are no hard seams which may call skin irritation on your little one’s shirts and pants;
- Make sure that your little baby’s bed is comfortable, and that his blanket is not fluffy much;
- Do not abuse an oil – cloth under the linen;
- Do not leave your little baby in the same diaper for more than three hours;
- Bathe your little one as often as possible, you may do it up to three times a day in the summertime; but keep in mind that soap is to be used no more than two – three times a week;
- Put some baby oil or baby powder on the irritated skin area after your baby has taken a bath.

Sex Organs
 At this period of his life you may find your little one “investigating” his sex organs. Majority of parents would become worried, having seen this, but it is not a problem at all, as your little boy’s penis or your daughter’s perineum is only one of the parts of body for a baby; just like an arm, a leg or a mouth. A little child has simply begun to study his next body area. And it is naturally very interesting for your baby’s hands and eyes. Do not get afraid that it might be “amoral”, or “dirty”, or anything like that, as you should better name all the investigated parts of body to your little child. and your baby, having heard his mother’s calm and confident voice will get busy with something different.

Going for a Walk
 Your baby’s perambulator becomes his favourite mean of traveling. And this is the age, when a little child demands to go for a walk only in a sitting position. And it is easy to explain, as there are so many interesting and fascinating things to be seen around: a car, a huge lorry, someone’s cat or dog, a bird, a flower, which smells so nice, etc. You are to show your little creature something different and new every day, and then you will be rewarded with your child’s frank smile, full of happiness.
 Sitting position is not desirable for a baby during his fifth month of life, especially if you see his back getting curved. But while going with your little one for a walk, you may put his perambulator into a half – sitting position, taking into consideration baby’s wish to see as much as possible, and to skip nothing interesting.

Communication
 Communication becomes one of your baby’s most important and favourite activities. He would halloo, squeak, growl, put his lips into a tube, and smile with pleasure. Everything is performed in order to listen to himself and to draw his parents’ attention. But most all your little baby loves to spend time with you, his mostly beloved mom. It is right now, when you begin to feel constant back ache after you have been communicating with the little one for quite a long period of time; as the baby prefers to get acquainted with the world around him only being in your arms. This is the very situation, when you should ask for your husband’s and your other available relatives’ assistance.

Sounds your baby is able to produce now are far from being perfect yet. They are guttural, as your little one’s lips and tongue take no part in their formation. When being alone babies would produce their “song”, which usually ends on a high tone. Your child’s favourite game keeps being having fun with you, when you repeat his “song”, as it stimulates him to continue his “communication”. Some separate sounds of this “song” (one of them is the “ta” sound) unite into a chain by themselves, and your baby would produce his “ta – ta – ta” again and again. Of course these syllables are pronounced unconsciously, but soon in your baby’s first words they will come out easily than other syllables.
