The Fourth Month

It may happen that your baby will make attempts to swim on his belly. These movements of his look like rudimentary (those ones, which disappear as the time goes by) swimming skills in his mother’s womb. But it is not so, you should pay attention at your little one’s puffing, coughing groaning, mumbling with dissatisfaction crying from any unsuccessful attempt. These are his attempts to crawl!

You may be trying to make your baby sit at this period of his life. If you let him rest on your arm, it will become possible, and you will see bunch of pleasure and happiness in your little son’s of daughter’s sparkling eyes. Pay attention, that in a sitting position your baby is able to hold his head vertically without your assistance!

But you should never leave your little baby in a sitting position for a long while yet (it is not difficult to notice how his back gets hunched). You risk making your baby exhausted or he may get a spine deformation. It is only useful to have such an element of sitting as one of his daily exercises. Holding his hands, you may pull your little child up to the sitting position, and then slowly lay him down.
You may often hear some cracking while moving your baby’s arms and legs in his elbows and knees. But there is no reason to get worried. This cracking will disappear in a month or two, when his body’s arms’ and legs’ muscles will get stronger (especially with your help while making exercises or massage). The reason of this cracking is the articulate organs’ immatureness.

Language
Babies at the age of four months usually pay attention at any noise and show vivid interest to weak and loud sounds. But it is well known that little children prefer music during this period of their life. You should keep it in mind, while calming your little one down. But still, his own sounds make him feel much happier and pleased. Your little baby would repeat his “felicitous” combination again and again, as if trying to remember his own vocal composition.
By the way, it will be much easier for your baby to pronounce these syllables as components of real words later. The so – called “mumbling” gradually turns into separate sounds, like [e], [a], [i], [ha], etc.

Eye – sight and Perception of Colours
Babies are able to distinguish things at the distance up to 8 – 12 inches. Their eye – balls’ movements are quite well – coordinated by this time. If you move something vivid of red, yellow, orange, sky – blue colour in front of your baby’s eyes, at the above mentioned distance, he would follow this thing with his eyes in all directions: up, down, right or left. While this, he should not be squint – eyed already. By the end of this month your baby will enjoy different colours.

Communication
You may get surprised, if you hear your baby’s loud laugh when you tickle him while playing. Such a reaction at your tickling is the manifestation of his social development. If you notice any changes in your little baby’s mood, you should try to explain them to yourself. Why would your child become sleepy, apathetic, or even irritated? It may happen because you have limited the volume of his perception. And it is only up to you to correct this mistake. Enjoy your baby’s reaction at a flower, tree, branch, leaves, snow, bird, and many other things, as you bear a great mission to help this little creature get acquainted with the whole world. And you will of no doubt be rewarded with his frank smile.

Smile is still the main manifestation of pleasure and happiness. If becomes the manifestation of love towards everyone, who takes care after a baby. You should talk more to your little one, praise him for every achievement of him, and help him to overcome this difficult way of development successfully.
