Ear, Eyes Second month of a baby’s life is characterized by his eye and ear analyzers perfection. Your little one is able to follow his eyes after the subject you move up and down and from one side to another above his bed on the distance of higher than 20 inches. (Your baby watches at the faces of different people greater attention than at any other thing. If you go for a walk with him, he watches after the movement of leaves, of cars, etc.
Sometimes parents consider their baby is cross – eyed. This phenomenon can be explained by the restricted control of his face muscles. It is not dangerous and it will disappear soon.
Children distinguish only two colours - black and white. They prefer light tones, and moving subjects. It is easily for them to look at things, which are of no more than two contrastive colours.
Your baby begins to distinguish sounds. If before he used to react upon an intensive sound irritant by startling with all his body, now he turns his head to see the source of a sound, listens to the music, someone’s talk, etc. And the most important thing about it is that he himself begins to pronounce different voices.
Single guttural sounds gradually form into babbling. Your baby pronounces separate sounds like [ a ], [ o ], [ u ], [ e ]; and at the end of the second month of his life he tries to unite them with consonants [ ha ], [ he ], [ ehe ]. His laugh also becomes the first manifestation of pleasure and happiness.
Cry It is still the main mean of your baby’s communication, but by this time it becomes of different shades. And even the most inexperienced mother begins to recognize and distinguish any least peculiarity of her baby’s cry. • Cry because of some uncomfortable feeling sounds almost uninterruptedly and it is of an unpleasant side. If you guessed what your little one needs and took his wet diaper or an extra blanket away or moved him into another room, which is colder or warmer, he will calm down right away. • Cry because of hunger is of an imperative character as a rule. Your baby turns his head left and right, he moves his lips, as if he is in the process of sucking milk. • Cry because of colic in his stomach is of a piercing character and it is followed by real anxiety: your little child moves his legs up and down, turns left and right, and lets the wind out. If his defecation is porridge – like, and of a yellow colour, if there is no vomiting, you have no reasons to get troubled about it.
Colic in Your Baby’s Stomach It is an often attribute of your baby’s second month. Here is some piece of advice how to help your little one solve this problem. • Try to feed your baby slower; do not let him swallow much air. Your inner calmness and comfortable room will help him as well. • Give your baby herbal tea between feedings. • After every feeding hold your little one in a vertical position for several minutes, let his belly lean against your breast, and put his head on your shoulder. The best for your baby will be if you put him with the “skin to skin” contact. Mother’s warmth and vertical position will make the air swallowed by him out through his mouth and this will help him to get rid of colic. • Having put your baby in his bed, massage his belly with your warm hand. Such a massage will make the air bulbs disappear as well as his stomach ache. • Put a hot – water bottle on your baby’s belly. • If you feed your baby with your milk, you should keep your own diet in mind. Coffee, strong tea, cabbage, beans, much fruit, or raw vegetables can cause colic. • And one more way to help your little baby is to put him on his belly and give him a soother. This will also help him to get rid of colic.
If nothing helps him, and your baby cries, moves his legs up and down, you should show him to a doctor, as it may be a sign of a serious disease.
