The Sixth Month

You will soon be celebrating your baby’s first anniversary – he will become half a year old. It is impossible not to notice how much your little one has changed from the moment of his arrival! And for sure you have best friends by this time – you may feel each other’s mood, know each other’s tastes and you always are able to understand what exactly you little baby wants at any definite moment.

Physical Development
During this month of his life your baby’s weight becomes 1, 3 – 1, 4 pounds more (he gains about one third of a pound per week). If you notice him gaining too much weight every month, you should correct his ration by giving him lees porridges, which contain a lot of calories and increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in his menu. If your baby weight is lower than it is to be, (if he does not gain more than a pound per week), you should begin to give him butter, oil, make vegetable purees more different and choose some of the less caloried porridges. Comparing with the moment of your little one’s arrival now he should be about 6 inches longer.

Moving Activity
No one has ever taught little babies to move along the floor. After great amount of failures and a lot of suffering every little baby finds his own way to do it. And it is only interest that makes them crawl: they find it easier to get to some interesting subject by themselves than make you understand with the help of different sounds what they want see or touch. At the beginning a baby will use the “crawling on his belly” method.

It is still difficult for babies at the age of six months to crawl in the classical way, on knees and stretched hands, but there are babies, who manage to do it.
At the beginning they would only craw in a “lobster way”. There are also babies, who move by rolling from their back on the belly, than on the back again – up until they reach the opposite side of a room. Crawling becomes your baby’s favorite king sport. And you should never interrupt him, as you may possibly be bringing up one of the future gymnasts. And yet, it is a good massage for your little one!
By the and of this month most of babies are able to sit without any assistance and with their back being straight and their body is not to be bending either forward or to the side. But you should not try to straighten your baby’s back with your palm after you have read this information. If his back stays bent forward, this means, that it is not the time for your little one to sit yet. Do not get worried of upset. The sitting skill may form somewhat later at 6, 5 – 7 months. If your baby’s back stays hunched at this age, you should ask his doctor’s advice. One of the possible reasons of this may be weakened muscle tonus because of rachitis or some nervous system development deviation. If a baby lags behind in his psychomotor development from the moment of his arrival, the sitting skill will also appear later than usually.

Babies during the sixth month of their life sometimes have a wish to walk, and of course it may only happen with your assistance. Happy parents are proud to inform everyone about their baby’s achievement. But is not a walk of full value. Baby’s legs bend in the knees, his feet turn outside as well it is not acceptable in the future walk skill formation. Besides, such on early “walk” may disfigure or delay real walk. The point is that shins’, hips’ and pelvis’ muscles are not ready to provide correct technique of walking yet. But jumping and dancing, which your baby may also be eager to do will not only raise his mood, but train all necessary groups of muscles. So, you should include these above – mentioned elements into your little one’s everyday exercises.
