The Twelfth Month

Get acquainted with a new quite independent person. Your baby has his own likes and dislikes, he is a serious, and stubborn creature, who loves you, his parents most of all in the world. Your little one’s first steps will make you sure in it, as these are the steps of the happiest human being on earth. And here is your hard work – it is all in your baby’s sparkling eyes.

Physical Development
Let us sum up. By the end of your baby’s first year of life, he is to weight 22 – 23 pounds, and his height is usually 29 – 30 inches. If your little one’s data differ from those, mentioned above, it is not a reason to get worried about it. First of all you should look at yourself, at your baby’s father, at your and your husband’s parents, because the baby, you see in front of you is the combination of all these constitutional peculiarities.

As for the amount of the teeth your baby has, we can propose you the formula: N – 4, where N is the baby’s age (it is measured in months). So, a baby at the age of 12 months is to have 12 – 4 = 8 teeth. These are four upper teeth and 2 – 4 lower ones. You may use the above given formula up until your baby is 24 months old, but still, there are bunches of kids, who have only one tooth appeared by this time.

Moving Activity
The time for an active acquaintance with the surrounding has come. Your baby will get to know something new every day. This is a period of a baby’s life, all parents are crazy about. Three babies out of five begin to walk at their 12th month. And if your little one has become to stand firmly on his feet only recently, he may start walking somewhat later, even after he is fifteen months old. Mind that children, who have excessive weight and those, of a calm and quiet temperament, usually begin to walk later, than babies, who can not spend a moment without doing something. Still, you should not get bothered if your son or daughter has not made the first step by this time yet, as he or she will catch up with other children of the same age in no time. But if your baby can not stand or even sit by this time, it is necessary to show him to a doctor.

At first your baby keeps himself unsteady on his legs while walking, he puts his legs wide one from another and makes his steps without any confidence at all; he can not stand on his feet for a long time yet, that is why you r little one would sit down periodically. But his interest and stubbornness win the victory over his fear, and every step of his becomes more and more perfect! Of course, your baby will not manage to avoid all the bruises and bumps, connected with the first steps, but you are not to let your baby slobber, because he may turn into a weeper soon. If your baby fell down, you should behave the way, as if nothing happened, try to draw his attention by something interesting for a child of his age. You are to encourage your little one’s walking, but never make him do it. If may also happen that a child begins to talk and walk at the same time. In this case he would concentrate on something one; if he pays more attention to new words pronunciation, than his walking skill will develop somewhat later, and vice versa.

At this period of his life your baby prefers to eat without any help from you. So, you should not get surprised, if the dish, you are trying to propose him is not approved, but as soon as you let your little one take a spoon into his hand, the plate becomes empty.
