If you're breastfeeding mom you are to be very careful with any medicine. Warn your doctor that you're a mom now, because even the most common medicines can harm your baby.

Such radioactive medicines, which are used with the aim to conduct some diagnostic tests, like Gallium – 69, lodine – 125, lodine – 131, Technetium – 99m can be taken by a nursing mother, if she stops feeding her baby with her breast milk for a while.

And here comes the list of medicines, which are not safe to take during the time a woman feeds her baby with her breast milk.
• Bromocriptine (Parlodel) is a medicine, which is applied by people with Parkinson’s disease. In addition, this medicine decreases woman’s breast milk supply;
• Most Chemotherapy medicines for cancer. These drugs kill cell in the mother’s body, that is why they may be dangerous for a baby as well;
• Ergotamine is the medicine, which is usually applied to treat migraine headaches. This drug may cause diarrhea, vomiting as well as convulsions in little children;
• Lithium is the medicine, which is usually applied to treat manic – depressive illness. It gets excreted in human milk;
• Methotrexate is the medicine, which is usually applied to treat arthritis. This drug can influence the baby’s immune system in a negative way;
• Drugs of Abuse. There are drugs, such as cocaine and PCP, which can become the reason of bye baby’s intoxication. Other drugs, for example amphetamines, marijuana, heroin, etc. can cause many negative conditions, such as irritability, tremor, vomiting, poor sleeping patterns, etc. It is even possible that a baby can become addicted to these drugs.
• Tobacco Smoke. There is no doubt, that any woman, who is feeding her baby with her breast milk is to avoid smoking, as nicotine causes vomiting, restlessness and diarrhea for the infant. It is also considered to be one of the reasons of the decreased breast milk production in a woman. Maternal smoking or passive smoke increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome - SIDS, in addition, it increases respiratory and ear infections.
